The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, itching, diarrhea, lethargy, and lack of appetite. The safe use of Nexgard in pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. It should be used with caution in dogs that have a history of seizures or other neurologic disorders, speak with your veterinarian about using Nexgard for your dog.
Nexgard can be used with other treatments, such as vaccines, antiparasitic drugs, antibiotics (including topicals), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroids, antihistamines, and anesthetics. Discuss any medications and supplements your dog is taking with your veterinarian if you have specific questions about using Nexgard for your dog.
To minimize flea infestation, it's important to treat all animals in the house. Nexgard (afoxolaner) not appropriate to give to cats. It is NEVER advisable to give your cat any products labeled for use in dogs. Check with your veterinarian about products appropriate to give to cats.
NexGard® (afoxolaner)
chews are given orally once a month, at the minimum dosage of 1.14 mg/lb (2.5
mg/kg).
NexGard chews can be administered with or without food. Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or refused. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost or if vomiting occurs within two hours of administration, redose with another full dose. If a dose is missed, administer NexGard chew and resume a monthly dosing schedule.
Flea Treatment and Protection: Treatment with NexGard may begin at any time of the year. In areas where fleas are common year-round, monthly treatment with NexGard should continue the entire year without interruption.
To minimize the likelihood of flea reinfestation, it is important to treat all animals within a household with an approved flea control product.
